October 2020 Expenses | 2020

November 09, 2020 by Jacinle in Monthly Recap, Shopping

Review: Brook There Triangle Bra

July 20, 2020 by Jacinle in Shopping

As the WFH era ended, I realized how much I resent my underwire bras.

All my underwire bras were Aerie Sunnie Full Coverage Lightly Lined Bras*. They are as comfortable as an underwire bra can get, yet after going bra-free for months, I looked for a bralette that could provide adequate support while being gentle on my skin.

I was reluctant to fully convert to bralettes since most of the ones I’ve tried don’t provide adequate coverage to disguise the nipples. I work in a relatively conservative office environment and I’m quite self-conscious of wearing a bralette that allows the nipples to burst right through.

A blogger who sews as a hobby acquainted me to the underwear brand Brook There. She suggested Brook There’s triangle bras as they are double-layered and may be the best option to keep nipples from showing through.

Brook There offers bras ranging from US size 32AB to 38CD. I followed their size chart and ordered the Wheat Triangle Bra in 34A/B (same as my Aerie bra size 34B). For reference, I wear Cosabella/Calvin Klein bralettes in size small.

Packaging: The order was delivered in a plastic mailer bag with a piece of tissue paper wrapping the bra. I appreciated the minimal packaging as I was able to re-use these materials to sell my secondhand clothing.

Comfort / Fit: The material is 94% organic cotton, 6% spandex and feels much more breathable than synthetic padded bras. It doesn’t have a back closure, but the elastic trim seats comfortably on my ribcage and doesn’t dig too deep. As I mentioned earlier, the cups are double-lined. It’s nice and stretchy, offering good coverage for my chest and nipples. I’ve worn this under my silk button-ups at work for several days and haven’t had to worry about my headlights showing through.

The strap adjusters are located on the front and very convenient to adjust while worn.

I chose my first triangle bra in a neutral color in Wheat. It matches my skin tone and blends pretty well underneath a white t-shirt.

Care: I’ve tried both hand washing and machine washing (cold cycle). The shape and color holds very well for both washing methods. I only air-dry to conserve the elastic trim.

Price: The Triangle Bra is priced at a steep $48. However, considering its material and domestic production, I think it is a fair price for a quality piece. Alternatively, if you don’t mind other colors, you can try their 3-pack for $88, which is less than $30 for each bra. But do note that no returns will be offered for sale items.

You can also use this referral link to get $25 off your fist order of $75+

Overall, I’m more than happy with my first cotton triangle bralette from Brook There. It’s minimalist, supportive enough for my small chest, and comfortable while not making me feel self-conscious at work. Hopefully, this review can help those longing for that braless comfort outside the home.
